Washington, DC One Step Closer To Same-Sex Marriage

Referring to my previous coverage on this issue, if one person in DC understands the importance of such right, he is our Mayor Adrian Fenty who signed the bill to legalize same-sex marriage in our nation capital yesterday. It just needs to be signed by our Congress in 30 days as the last step. Fenty is certain that our Democratic-controlled Congress will approve it.
Mayor Adrian Fenty connection to this bill is his father, Phil Fenty, who is black, and mother, Jan Fenty, who is white. They both moved from Buffalo to Washington back in 1967 to get married and their parents were furious about their interracial relationship.
Not sure how many of you guys watched Fenty yesterday as he signed the bill. He was unusually emotional. He spent about 5 minutes talking about similar problem his parent went through.
Not surprisingly, just as the mayor signed the bill, many of the prominent homophobic such as Bishop Harry Jackson, a leading same-sex marriage opponent, issued a statement, vowing to continue the fight in Congress and the courts. Yeah! Good luck with that Bishop!
Frankly, who cares what the fraud, Bishop Harry Jackson says. Who cares what he thinks. He’s a con artist. He doesn’t even live in the DC. My understanding is he has tried to defraud the DC Voting Bureau last year by fraudulently registering to vote in the city where he has never voted, does not live not work.
Anyway, I am very proud to live in this great city of ours, WASHINGTON,DC where the city council and the mayor have passed a law legalizing gay marriage, and soon to be signed by our Congress
Congratulation to David Catania, who introduced the bill, Mayor Fenty who signed the bill, the gay & lesbian community of Washington, DC who will enjoy the benefits, and to all Washingtonians who will end up living in a better city!
