The Best Of Bill Maher This Week

by Elias Shams
Bill Maher breaks out his new rules on Friday’s Real Time and his final rule deals with politicians who say that Americans are smart enough to see through spin and lies. Maher speaks the truth – it’s amazing that during the information age, it’s still so difficult to get factual information to the public. The facts are that Barack Obama isn’t a Muslim, Saddam Hussein wasn’t involved in the 9/11 attacks and global warming is real — yet somehow, to some, they still remain theories.

Maher:”New rule, politicians must stop saying “the American people are smarter than that.” No they aren’t! If the Bush era has taught us anything, it’s that voters want a president carved in their own image. Someone who doesn’t like to read or believe anything he’s told and is easily distracted by bright, shiny objects.”

Google Will Be Selling Home Loan And Groceries Soon

by Elias Shams
This week marks the week Google will take over the world. We might as well start getting used to calling our planet GOOGLE. It ain’t earth anymore.

Referring to one of my earlier posts back in Jan 2nd about Google, I meant it when I said Google would rock our world in 2010.

We are not half way into February, Google has already announced so many new services that no one would have ever anticipated. I didn’t take the launch of  GoogleWave and GoogleBuzz surprising. It was expected soon or later.  I learned that after three years of running the  social search company, Searchles as their CEO last year. It became obvious to me Google would come up with something similar to our solution and even more robust at some point. They introduced GoogleWave and just recently GoogleBuzz that has the potential to kill Facebook and Twitter all together. Too early to make such a conclusion though.

To me, the alarming factors about Google were:

a) Their recent launch of Public DNS service
b) The recent launch of an alternative to HTTP, called SPDY
c) Their participation in  auction for  700 MHz Spectrum in 2008. Although, they eventually lost the auction to Verizon Wireless, but they introduced their fist Smartphone, Nexus one last month Read more…

Watson Adventures On A Unique Scavenger Hunt For Adults

by Elias Shams
Two very interesting and refreshing hunts at two museums in DC you may want to check out tomorrow on V-day – one at the National Art Gallery and the other one at the Smithsonian Art Museum.

The hunts involve nudity in some way – right up my alley, shape or sultry form, whether you are looking for naughty nymphs, a sea-monster surfer, eye-catching codpieces, bathing beauties, the original Adonis or shark bait named Watson. No knowledge of art, or nudity, is required :-)

Highlights include a tempting she-devil, an Eve who’d get you to bite an apple, a giddy drinker, native men with no need for a gym, a “topless” horseman, and a nude that gives new meaning to the word “hot.” Plus you’ll dip a toe into the adjoining National Portrait Gallery to learn the salacious secrets of some rakish presidents and other famous Amercians. How Am I Supposed To Pickup Chicks With iPad In DC Coffee Shops?

by Elias Shams
The days of buying my Washington Post newspaper, heading to Tryst or another local coffee shop  and slowly starting to flirt with the ladies next to me is all O.V.E.R. Thanks to Steve Jobs and his new toys, iPhone and iPad.

The ladies these days are so engaged with their iPhones, and iPads soon – touching the screen, playing games, surfing the web, checking out pictures, that no chance in hell they find me more interesting than what they will see and read on their iPad screen. I have to come up with a new approach now. Crap! All that years of flirting techniques using the Newspaper as a tool is over.

Yup! It looks like the old business model of the Newspapers is toast. We all know it. It’s just that some can’t quite cope with the change yet, myself included. You see it daily at most newspapers–where classified, real estate and auto advertising has been sucked in to the black hole of the Internet. In response, massive cost cutting and layoffs have created print publications that are shells of their former selves. Read more…

How To Explain Sexuality To kids In DC

by Elias Shams
Answering kids’ questions about sex is one of the responsibilities many parents dread most. It is particularly going to be harder for the Washingtonian parents. It has always been difficult for parents to acknowledge this, just as it’s difficult for kids to think of their parents as sexually active. Certainly, the subject shouldn’t be avoided.

Why would this subject be harder for the Washingtonian parents? Given Dr. Ruth plans to transform Washington to Shaggington, and gay marriage is about to be legalized in DC next month, go figure. Not that there is anything wrong with gay marriage or Dr. Ruth’s initiative. They are both great things for DC. Gay marriage is a given right anyway. It’s just Washington and the rest of our nation are about waking up to it. Gay marriage was legalized in Europe several decades ago. Therefore, I can totally see how the Washingtonian parents will feel even more tongue-tied and awkward when it comes to discussing sex with their kids in a few month. Read more…
