Google Android Powered 3G on Verizon’s Horizon

by Elias Shams

Apple's tablet vs Google's tablet :-)

This is what I love about America the most! Competition! Competition! and more Competition which explains why we are more of  a service oriented nation as supposed to sales oriented like all other countries I have been living and working including UK, Spain, and even Germany.

It’s not even three months from the launch of Apple’s iPad, Google is already working on the development of an Android-powered tablet in collaboration with Verizon Wireless to compete with Apple’s. I read about it in the Wall Street Journal this morning. Adding a big new twist to the tablet computing wars.

Same scenario on the service side of the game. When AT&T scored yet another big victory over rival Verizon Wireless by landing Apple’s iPad recently, it was obvious it wouldn’t be long before Verizon prepared a counter punch.

Although details –- including a name, manufacturer, and launch date are not yet known,  Verizon Wireless CEO Lowell McAdam told the Wall Street Journal his firm was working with the search engine giant on the “next big wave of opportunities,” represented by the tablet market.

It sounds like the operating system for the tablet will be Android. The decision might change though.  It’s going to be interesting with both Android and Chrome OS as possible operating systems that can be used on the tablet.

The other factor I will be monitoring closely is how stable Adobe Flash will be on Android Operating system.

Once their tablet is out along with other tablets I previously covered, we the consumer will be the ultimate winners :-) assuming the tablets will end up becoming a must have gadget like our mobile phones. Frankly, I don’t see the tablet a must have thing today. How many people today are using the iPad in comparison to desktops, laptops, notebooks and mobile devices?

Let’s see how quickly the Newspapers, the books, and our sex life die with the tablets :-(

  1. Hi Elias,
    Very nice article.
The war of Verizon and At&T reminds me the infinite war between the good and the evil. :D
I think after the purchase of Palm by HP soon there will be a third strong player on the US Tablet market.

    P.S
