And you asking me why I created a website for Awesome DC?
Washington D.C.’s monuments and museums continue to bring visitors in from all over the world. This summer, more tourists could crowd the nation’s capital after travelers listed it as a top travel spot for 2010.
TripAdvisor announced the winners of its yearly Traveler’s Choice Destinations Awards. It recognizes the top cities for families, food, spas, nightlife and more.
Contributors ranked D.C. the No. 4 top travel destination in the U.S., and the top U.S. city for culture and sightseeing and No. 2 overall worldwide.
Those of you Washingtonians, help me to position DC as number one for nationally and internationally

California being the most populus state and having the top 3 destinations might be hard to topple. Everybody knows about the major sites in DC but the secondary venues need to be better marketed. The various embassy events could be a bigger draw and the Air and Space museum at Dulles is a little known jewel for aviation buffs but it is hard for tourist to get to. I am surprised more veteran related groups don’t do monument/museum tours of the DC area of military significance. Just a few ideas.
You are missing the main one – The People of Washington DC metro. Having lived in many countries and cites, I can tell the difference. We are more tolerant of others, more educated, more cultured, better sense of humor… the list is long
What a pitty it is not considered sightseeing to help us with our ranking
We recently came back from Washington DC and we loved it! It was our first visit, and we wouldn’t have gone if my sister hadn’t been so insistent about what an amazing place it was. Now we’ve been, we’re recommending it to all our friends. We used this city guide when we came…

Can you recommend any others?
It’s all in the brand, the ‘why’ of your message and the consistency of communications – the ‘people of D.C.’ could be a super interesting campaign, i.e. ‘I am D.C.’ campaign to generate interest combined with ‘here’s what you can see/do/experience’ — fun stuff:)
