CLEAR 4G Mobile Internet Service In Central Washington, D.C. Area
June 1, 2010 2 Comments

Clearwire is gearing up to kick ass and take names in DC area. I saw their first retail store in DC only a few blocks from Awesome DC headquarter in Dupont Circle.
Today, they announced the availability of their super fast mobile Internet service for the city. Bye Bye Comcast
What’s the big deal with their services?
This cool video explains it all:
With Clearwire service known as CLEAR, you will be able to access the Internet wirelessly, at true broadband speeds – at home, in the office, and on the go anywhere in the CLEAR within this central D.C. area including communities as far north as Chevy Chase and Silver Spring MD, south to Alexandria VA, west to Falls Church, VA, and east to College Park MD.
They are currently offering a promotional service for limited time, if you are a Washingtonian, you can have the mobile Internet promotion with plans starting at $15 per month for the first two months after a $50 monthly after that. You can signup for their online promotion from here.
The CLEAR customer experience is similar to that provided by Wi-Fi, but without the short-range limitations of a traditional Internet hotspot. CLEAR uses WiMAX, a wireless 4G technology that differs from Wi-Fi because it provides service areas measured in miles, not feet. Furthermore, CLEAR gives users average mobile download speeds of 3 to 6 mbps with bursts over 10 mbps.* Outside of the CLEAR 4G service area, dual-mode 4G/3G connectivity is available which provides expanded coverage using the fastest service available for regional travelers by leveraging Sprint’s 3G data network.
CLEAR service is also available from a number of other outlets including Best Buy, Micro Center and RadioShack.

Be aware of the in-building limitiations with 4G. Coverage is reduced very quickly inside most homes and buildings.
Have you personally experienced it?
