OPEIU 25th Convention Kicks Off in Washington, D.C.

The Office and Professional Employees International Union (OPEIU), AFL-CIO, today kicked off its 25th Convention in Washington, D.C. The convention, which will be held June 21-24, will focus on the theme “Diversity is Our Strength” in honor of OPEIU’s gender and ethnic diversity, as well as the varied job classifications and professional industries it represents.
Today, convention delegates will also travel by bus to demonstrate at the American Red Cross (ARC) headquarters, to make the public aware of ARC’s unfair labor practices and to demand that ARC negotiate a fair and equitable contract with its employee unions.
During the convention, OPEIU will also be electing officers who will lead and serve the members for the next three years. Delegates at this convention will elect 18 officers: President, Secretary-Treasurer, and 16 Vice Presidents.
Scheduled speakers include U.S. Senator Charles E. Schumer (D-NY); Representative Joe Sestak (D-PA); Stephanie Miller, host of The Stephanie Miller Show on Sirius/XM Satellite Radio; Clayola Brown, president of the A. Philip Randolph Institute; Arturo Rodriguez, president of the United Farm Workers; Leslie Tolf, president of Union Privilege; Karen Ackerman, AFL-CIO Political Director; and comedian Mark Russell.
