Washington D.C. Economy is on Fire!
July 19, 2010 9 Comments
Politico just filed a report about the booming economy in Washington, D.C. where confidence is high after the “massive expansion of government under President Barack Obama”.
Politico surveyed 227 “Washington elites”—meaning DC residents who make at least $75,000 a year, and work in politics in some form—and found a group much more optimistic than the rest of the country. More of the elites said the country was on the right track (49%) than on the wrong one (45%); in a national poll, 61% went with “wrong track.” The elites also like President Obama a lot more, and Sarah Palin a lot less, than the rest of the country does, and they view the economy in a slightly rosier light. Different issues were important to the two samples as well. Only 36% of the elite see immigration as a “very important” issue, for example, compared to 53% of the public. For “family values,” the break was even more stark—23% to 62%.
I don’t quite agree with all the data, but hey, it is from Politico. I guess they have earn some level of reputation in the country. So it certainly worth paying attention:

Is this supposed to be a good thing?
Frankly, not quit sure
Once again the Looney Tune media has gone over the deep end. I have lived and raised my family here all my life and I can say that this is the first recession that this area has suffered thru in my lifetime of 62 years.
We have double the unemployment rate we normally have. It would be nice if people would realize that most of our metro population lives outside the borders of D.C. If you do not think that we have been hurt in the private sector, just go out to the Maryland and VA. suburbs and see all the” For lease” signs in Fairfax, Montgomery, Prince Georges and Frederick Counties on commercial properties. The housing market has slowed in most areas of Washington. Home Inventories are rising. In montgomery County alone the inventory has gone from 3400 units to over 5000 units just in 2.5 months. Yes things are on fire alright , in someones fantasy land called D.C.
The economy isnt booming here. I am having extreme difficulty with keeping work and many other people that I know are in worse condition than I such as loosing their home , car, job and retirement account. The DC economy sux and the article is false.
Did you watch the video?
The Report is from Politico. We just posted what they say
massive expansion started under Bush – 1391 agencies/orgs to keep us safe from terrorists whith 854,000 secret clearances issued. Read the washingtonpost from yeserday.
These days when in the best suburbs around DC ( McLean, Great Falls, …) you can buy houses %25-30 under county assessments, I would say booming my personalty …… Haven’t you noticed all empty commercial properties around? I think, the article is a few years late/old…..
While the DC economy is probably doing better than elsewhere, I think it is a major stretch to say that the economy here is on fire. I know first-hand that companies are still reluctant to hire. There seems to be a good amount of “fishing” going on, but as for filling positions, not so much.
