BlackBerry Torch: Bigger but Needs More Viagra

AT&T and RIM’s BlackBerry Torch hit the stores this week. The new device marks the first to ship with version 6 of BlackBerry’s OS which is very important launch for RIM.
Although, RIM has finally realized, the larger the display screen, the better, but the company totally missed the phone’s mojos – a) the processor which is only 624 MHz, b) the low-resolution screen! It’s way too slow compare to other smartphones in the market – in particular iPhone 4.
Check out the processors and resolutions on their competitors here:

I like the design though. The handset itself is solid and is still compact enough to comfortably sit in a pants pocket. The combination of the touch screen and physical keyboard gives you the best of both worlds, but not sure how to cope with the low resolution and slow processor. I find these two features very disappointing.
I think their new media player interface and Universal search are a kick ass.
Prior the launch of the device, many analysts called BlackBerry Torch an “iPhone Killer”, but after watching the two clips below, the device is not even close. Check out the demos here and make your own call:

Why was there no comparison information for the Torch in the article? It did not give me any useful information except an opinion that I am not sure I can trust due to what was missing.

Jeff, The BlackBerry Tourch was just launched. The specs you see I included in my article, are based on what the company has said about their phone or what I’ve read about it so far. Once, I get my hands on it, believe me, I would put up another comparison chart up here like the one you saw for other 4 which have been in a market for a few month.
I really hope I am wrong about the troch. I really like BB. But the two items in the phone – low processor and resolution, don’t you also think they are kind of disappointing compare to what’s currently out there? Will you buy a notebook with 1 Gig Ram today? That is the equivalent of what RIM is selling with their Torch I think.
