Giveaway Ticket to see GW vs. La Salle Basketball Game and to meet Mayor Gray

My school, the George Washington University is hosting Mayor Gray at the GW Men’s Basketball game – GW against La Salle on Jan Jan 5th at 7:00 p.m. I am invited to attend and I can take one with me.

Frankly, I have no interest in Basketball. In fact, I have never attended a basketball game. I am attending this one just to meet with our new mayor to have brief conversation about boosting entrepreneurship in Washington, DC. Read more of this post

First Annual Wonderland Show by Art Soiree last night @ L2 Lounge

Thanks to the wonderful organizers, Tati ana and Sandro, Art Soiree hosted another great party last night at L2 lounge in Georgetown – Their First Annual Wonderland Show.

Given they were founded only in September of 2009 – a few month before I launched Awesome DC, I was very impressed with the turn out.  Tati and Sandro started the company with the goal to showcase emerging talent in the visual arts, short film, music, and performance art in the Washington, DC.

Washington could use more people like these guys.  Their work is right along line with my mission with awesome DC blog and my social media company, awesomize.me that I launched last month :-) With their focus in art and mine in technology, I believe we should be able to position Washington, DC as the hub for Art, Culture, technology, partying, and fun events, as opposed to just classic Politics, corruption, scandals, and the fuck ups :-) Read more of this post

W Hotel Invasion by awesomize.me members Last Night

I headed to W Rooftop Hotel last night to hang out with a few friends. As I always, I ordered my red wine and started cruising aroun to check out the place and the people.

The place is just Awesome! What’s even more awesome is the view. From the 11th-floor balcony at 15th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue, you can see  Washington is spread out right in front of you. You will also be able to see all the monuments – the Lincoln Memorial, Washington Monument, the White House’s East Wing which is only a block away, and more.  You can also watch planes taking off from Reagan National Airport or see the Pentagon, Arlington National Cemetery and Old Town Alexandria. It’s just beautiful! Read more of this post

Mayor-Elect Gray: Please Make DC Awesome For Entrepreneurs

A great blog post by an awesome  entrepreneur friend of mine Daniel Odio-paez, CEO and Co-founder of the DC based startup, PointAbout.

I’d like to use this blog post to argue for incoming mayor Gray and the DC Council to make DC the most entrepreneur-friendly place in the US. That means tax breaks, access to government contracts, support for innovation zones, aggressive access to angel funding, but mostly it just means convincing high profile entrepreneurs from other areas to make the DC area their home.  It shouldn’t be that hard — many SF-based entrepreneurs are from the DC area originally and have family here.  You just have to give them good reasons to come back to DC. Proudly Made in DC is a new website  recently brought to my attention by my CTO.  If you are an entrepreneur, venture capitalist, and  particularly if you are a Washingtonian, you got to check them out as well as provide them with whatever support you can. Proudly Made in DC has a similar mission as my Awesome DC minus coverage  of  clubbing and partying around DC area.   The site focuses on technology and startups in the Washington, D.C. metro.  Their homepage lists all the great local startups including our own new venture, awesomize.me :-) Read more of this post

All aboard! Social Media Train Gearing up to Awesomize your Business in 2011

As more and more studies on social media are released, the more I am getting excited about our new venture, awesomize.me that we launched last month from the heart of the Awesome Washington, D.C. :-)

The recent study by eMarketer’s predicts that 80% of the businesses will adopt social media for their marketing purposes in 2011. The global surveys indicates that over 30 percent of those businesses don’t even have a social media policy. The report also says marketers that have spent the past few years ramping up their internal social media marketing infrastructure—and their presence on sites such as Facebook and Twitter —will take social media to new heights in 2011. How the Internet was Used in 2010

The recent study by Pew Internet on 2,252 adults, aged 18 and older clearly shows that the older generations are catching up with younger internet users in using the Internet this year.

What’s most interesting to me, is the usage of email vs.  blogs. The color coordinated spreadsheet suggests that 10-19% of everyone aged 18-64 are blogging. That is an enormous number of people *generating* online content, as opposed to merely consuming it.  Indeed,”Blogging” is the only content-creation activity listed. Read more of this post
