Is the Honeymoon Period Over for iPhone?

Looks like Facebook is not the only thing we are getting addicted to. Our addiction to smartphones is certainly becoming as important. Their shipments jumped 43% year-over-year to 60 million units globally in the second quarter of 2010 and handset shipments grew by 13% in the quarter to 308 million, according to the Strategy Analytics. And no! they weren’t all iPhone. Others have been also kicking ass taking names! Read more of this post

Hilarious Comparison of iPhone 4 vs Sprint EVO 4G

This is a hilarious and original piece of comedy I found on Youtube that make fun of  how people can lock on to a brand to the point of ridicule. The iPhone could not be a better example. If you can’t laugh at it then maybe “You don’t care” either :-) Read more of this post

Apple Offers Free Bumpers to Remedy iPhone 4 Antenna Issue

Steve Jobs addressed growing concerns over iPhone 4 antenna reception issues at an hastily arranged press conference yesterday, pledging to provide any upset consumers a free $29 “bumper” case that’s said to alleviate reception woes. Those who purchase the device through Sept. 30 will be eligible for the case. Customers who already have purchased a case will receive refunds.

Apple has seen strong sales for the iPhone 4 since its release in mid-June, despite a reception issue that occurs sometimes when users cover the lower left end of the device. The problem — which some have labeled the “death grip” — has sparked growing outcry from customers. Earlier this week, Consumer Reports said that it could not recommend the iPhone 4 due to the flaw, and then on Thursday, U.S. Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) published an open letter to Apple asking that the company fix the problem free of charge. Jobs, however, said that his company had been working to resolve the issue for more than three weeks. Read more of this post

What will Apple have to say about iPhone4 Antenna fix?

Apple has scheduled a press conference today to discuss its latest iPhone 4 and we just might be looking at that expected software fix for the now infamous reception issues plaguing the device.

Apple has already acknowledged that holding the iPhone 4 in a certain way — covering the lower left end of the device — can impede its reception, but was quick to point the real blame on an incorrect formula it was using to calculate how many reception bars appear on the device. Earlier this week, Consumer Reports said after testing it could not recommend the iPhone 4 due to what it called a hardware flaw with the antenna. Read more of this post

More and More Texting, Browsing, Downloading

Nearly two-thirds of U.S. mobile subscribers used text messaging in May, while nearly a third used their mobile web browsers or downloaded apps, according to a new report by comScore.

All three categories rose about 2% from figures released in February. The largest increase, however, occurred among those using their mobile devices to access social networks or blogs (up 2.6% to 20.8%). All told, 49.1 million people in the U.S. owned smartphones during the three months ending in May, up 8.1 percent from February, with Research In Motion‘s (Blackberry) platform running on nearly 42%. Apple (24.4%) and Microsoft (13.2%) followed, with Google‘s Android platform (13%) the only one among the top five gaining market share, up 4%.

The report further shows that 65.2 percent of U.S. mobile subscribers used text messaging on their mobile device in May, up 1.4 percentage points versus the prior three month period, while browsers were used by 31.9 percent of U.S. mobile subscribers (up 2.3 percentage points). Verizon on iPhone? Is it for real this time?

Good News for those of you loving iPhone, but hating its  current and exclusive carrier, At&t. Bloomberg News recently reported Verizon Wireless  to start offering iPhone in January of next year. The move will end the domestic exclusivity deal Apple has had with AT&T Mobility since the first iPhone launched in 2007. Although, you might have heard such a rumor many times since 2008, but I think it is real this time. Read more of this post

Who has really been Behind the iPhone success?

Apple sold more than 1.7 million iPhone 4 devices in the first three days of availability  in the U.S., U.K., France, Germany and Japan.  According to Piper Jaffray and  one survey, more than 77%  of  the iPhone 4 were sold in the U.S., were upgrades and thus would not bolster the carrier’s net customer addition results.

It is even more impressive when you consider the initial pre-order system failures, the device shortages, and the fact that half of the family isn’t even available yet. And most impressive may be that those who bought it in the U.S. were willing to sell their souls to AT&T for another two years.

In support of the new iPhone’s flooding its network, AT&T Mobility claims they have  increased capacity of its 3G network in the New York City area. The updates included the addition of new carriers to “nearly all cell sites in Manhattan and in other areas as needed throughout the Bronx, Queens and Brooklyn,” as well as adding a “layer” of precious 850 MHz spectrum to support increased coverage. The carrier has been transitioning portions of its 850 MHz spectrum from its legacy 2G network to its 3G service over the past several years in an attempt to bolster the 3G network’s coverage and capacity. The 3G network originally launched using the carrier’s 1.9 GHz spectrum band. Read more of this post

The iPhone Era

Wow! I can’t believe it has been four years. Time sure flies! Rock on iPhone and the competition that keeps you on your toes. The entire smartphone market is better for it.

I am not a great fan of Apple, but we got to give them the credit. Their iPhone has seriously revolutionized the “smartphone” market. I believe it made all the other smartphone makers rethink things. Especially Microsoft with their upcoming windows 7 series.

When the iPhone was released, I was excited, not for the phone itself, but for what it would do to the industry… We needed a serious change. Read more of this post

Google Music Service Come to Life in the Fall

Rumors of Google launching a music service have been going around for some time till yesterday it was confirmed by CNET. Google indeed is building an online music service that could debut as early as this fall. The service reportedly would include both download and streaming options.
