President Obama Throws Out First Pitch

In front of thousands of fans, President Barack Obama strolled to the pitcher’s mound and tossed a baseball to Washington Nationals third baseman Ryan Zimmerman, officially launching the team’s baseball season. (April 5).

I love the dude and I voted for him. I still believe in him. I have to admit… he is a lousy pitcher though :-)

Something about Marne

Here are more information we digged out about the new facebook’s vice president of global public policy babe,  Marne Levine, who just left her top position as the National Economic Counsel  at the white house. I blogged about her yesterday.

According to Washington Life, Marne is married to Philip Deutch “a managing director of Perseus, LLC, a Washington, D.C. and New York City-based private equity fund. Deutch focuses on venture capital investing in the energy area.”

She donated $4,600 to presidential campaigns in 2008 – $2,300 to Hilary Clinton and $2,300 to Barack Obama Read more of this post

Jon Stewart On Race

Jon Stewart was off last week. My vote to the best of The Daily show went to one of his older shows when he took on the race in America.

I was laughing my ass off listening to the white woman near to end of the clip, but it’s also tragic. The number of people with limited or no brain activity out there is both staggering and embarrassing.

During this past year (or face it, since Obama was elected), I find that those who continually profess themselves to be great Americans are usually anything but. It’s right up there with people who claim to be religious or moral. If you display these qualities genuinely, you don’t have to try to convince anyone else or remind them on a regular basis. DC About To Become More Awesome With Our High Speed Passenger Rail

by Elias Shams
Brace yourself for one of these babies or something close to it in our area. Imagine riding with it from DC to NY or San Francisco:

High-speed passenger rail projects in and around the DC area will receive nearly $200 million dollars in new grants as part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA), the Department of Transportation announced on Thursday. Projects will include the construction of a third track between Arkendale and Powell’s Creek in Virginia, as well as engineering and environmental work for a new tunnel in Baltimore and a new station at BWI Airport. The grants are part of $8 billion in federal stimulus spending aimed at improving high-speed rail service throughout the nation. Read more…

Twitter Or Facebook for President Obama And Bill Gates?

by Elias Shams
What a milestone for Twitter! They are officially the only website that has both the most powerful man and the richest man in the world as users.

President Obama and Bill Gates are now tweeting. Those of you still living in 70′s or 80′s may think that “tweeting” is waste of our president’s time, but this is the age of the Internet! Internet has proven to be highly effective tool for anyone, particularly for celebrities and politicians with a cause. There are nations out there where media is completely cut off or limited – either because of Politics like Iran and China or because of natural disaster like Haiti.  All in all, the most effective tool to keep an open line of communication is social media.

Besides, according to President Obama’s staff, he typically sleeps only around five hours each night, so he does put in a pretty long day. In fact, I guess the only time any President can halfway relax is at private family time in the family quarters at the White House. And even then, all Presidents are subject to be yanked back into “the world” at any moment.

Madame Tussauds Wax Museum In DC – The Scavenger Hunt This Weekend

First time, I heard of Madame Tussauds Wax Museum, I was in London back in Spring of 2003. I always thought Madame Tussauds was a English thing, till I found out there was also one right here in our nation’s capital and Amsterdam, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Berlin and believe it or not Las Vegas. Not sure anyone in Vegas goes these though.

Madame Tussauds is part of Merlin Entertainment, an international company that owns and operates 57 attractions including LEGOLAND, Madame Tussauds, British Airways London Eye, SEA LIFE, Dungeons, Gardaland and Alton Towers. If you plan to visit Madame Tussauds Washington DC (which you should), don’t expect to just mingle with politicians. In the Glamour section, you can mingle with celebrities such as Will Smith, Brad Pitt, Julia Roberts, Beyonce and Jennifer Lopez. In the Sports section, you can interact with lifelike sports idols such as Evander Holyfield and of course, Tiger Woods with his 14 mistresses :-) There is also a section dedicated to history.

The place is truly an interactive attraction that brings historical figures and events to life through wax figures that visitors can touch, see and hear. Madame Tussauds is a new “must see” attraction for families with a great location in the historic Woodies Building in the Penn Quarter neighborhood of Washington, DC.

The Museum is located at North of Pennsylvania Avenue, halfway between the White House and the U.S. Capitol Building and just south of Chinatown

Things Happened In Our Awesome Washington, DC During 2009

Here is the list of great things happened to our nation capital I remember. If we missed something, please send it to us and we make sure to add it to the list:

1. This guy finally left Washington for good :-)

2. We got a new president or better say a Blackberry-addicted President :-) His $800 billion stimulus package was stuffed with programs and grants to spur innovation and invigorate entrepreneurs.

3. We got a new Federal CIO and CTO to guide our technology policy: Virginia Tech Sec Aneesh Chopra and DC CIO Vivek Kundra. Vivek has been Mr. Transparency with projects like data.gov and recovery.gov that bring government spending out of the shadows, while Aneesh, has been guiding Obama’s policies in things like health care, energy independence, and education.

But wait, there’s more
