Four potential buyers have made an offer for the struggling Newsweek, which was put up for sale a month ago after its owner, the Washington Post Company, failed to stem millions of dollars in losses.
The Post in early May retained Allen & Company to help find potential buyers for the publication, which has seen mounting red ink over the past three years.
In common with many other mainstream magazines, Newsweek has struggled with an advertising downturn and a migration of readers to digital formats. The Washington Post group, which has owned Newsweek since 1961, suffered losses at its magazines division of $29.3m last year and $16.1m in 2008. Read more of this post
In a classic Bill Maher fashion, Bill really ripped into the right, using Tiger Woods’ explicit publicized text message as an analogy.
Maher decided it was time for the Democrats to start getting tougher on Republicans. He pointed to an awesome sexual text message Tiger Woods sent to one of his mistress, which promised rough sexual behavior, as asking the attitude Democrats should adopt from the “lying bullies of the right.”
Hilarious, witty, and needed to be said! Enjoy it If the video below doesn’t play, click here on his facebook page.

When was the last time you saw any of our presidents exchange love with the opposition party like this?
In a remarkably frank encounter, our President chastised Republican lawmakers yesterday during the GOP retreat for opposing him on taxes, health care and economic stimulus, while they accused him of ignoring their ideas and driving up the national debt.
It was one of the most amazing give-and-take between Obama and Republicans. This is the Obama I knew and believed in. A detail man with his eye on the solution. Watch this unique event where Obama turns the political rhetoric into mush and serves up some home truths. I need him to do this in a room full of die-hard…
Complete transcript of Obama’s remarks as recorded by the White House:
Congratulations Washington, DC and the rest of our nation!!! We are one step closer to the 21st century! The HealthCare Reform is finally passed. Well, still a little bit of legwork left.
Our Senate approved landmark legislation this morning at 7:00 a.m. EST that would extend healthcare for tens of millions of our uninsured citizens. Our Senators voted for the Bill along party lines – 60-39 – ensuring passage for the upper chamber’s version of the historic reform.
Of course, our President hailed the Bill, describing it as the most important piece of social legislation for the country since the 1930s. I watched him on CNN. Before you read the rest of my post, here is healthcare reform rational for dummies:
Here is what I don’t understand about many of our people here at home mainly the red states – particularly the ones opposed the reform. I remember them cheering to send our troops to a very wrong War back in 2003. It was ok for them to spend trillions of dollars for that War, but not to spend trillions of dollars saving lives at home! What’s the matter with you guys? It is time to pull your head out of your ass and think straight as supposed to following your senators or congressmen who work for the insurance companies.
I lived in Europe for four years, Although there are many flaws with the whole EU thing, but for sure their public healthcare system has had a great success since it was created in most of their countries right after World War II .
If you think their existing public healthcare system is such a disaster, where are the town hall meetings demanding that it is scrapped?
Those of you keep bringing up the bankruptcy thing, we’ve been at the brink before and we’ve always found a way back. I just heard on CNN that 75% of the bail out money we gave to the Banks last year, are paid back.
So, chill guys, keep calm and carry on!
I feel like we are the only country where provision of healthcare for citizens is seen as a matter of national mourning for some people.
It is a regret not a single Republican supported the Bill. Oh well, they will eventually grow up. They have been wrong in most of their decisions, this one included.
Anyway, Well done, Washington and welcome to the 21st century!
It couldn’t get any better for Republicans and worse for Dems. What a timing! What a perfect ammunition for the Republicans!
As the leaders of the industrial nations gathered in Copenhagen, Denmark to battle greenhouse emissions, a hacker exposed one of the most respected climate research institutes as having defrauded the world in regards to global warming. So, it is party time for the Republicans and Fox News in D.C of course:
The Republicans are now seizing the moment asking the administration to put the climate change measures on hold because messages from scientists in appear to cast doubt on the idea of man-made warming. They are calling on the Obama administration to suspend efforts to combat climate change until the controversy is resolved. The Republicans say that the e-mails suggest that scientists may have manipulated evidence to bolster their claims. The scientists dispute that and say that their words have been taken out of context.
As a result of such controversy which has totally flared up the summit, not sure what President Obama and other world leaders attempt to make progress on an important international treaty. I wish them luck.
To make the situation worse, in some e-mails, one of the prominent scientist urges colleagues to destroy records and not to release them. I guess under public disclosure laws, they can do that. Other scientists even discuss how to discredit research they disagree with. One of the leading figures in the scandal, East Anglia climate scientist Phil Jones, stepped down last week amid an investigation into his work and e-mails. So, I guess he is toast – possibly, before the investigation. In one of his ten years old e-mails, Jones wrote of using a “trick” to hide an apparent decline in recent temperatures on a chart being prepared for a meteorological organization. The Republicans are also focusing on an e-mail from Penn State University scientist Michael Mann as evidence that climate researchers have sought to downplay findings indicating that the Earth warmed naturally 1,000 years ago.
Anyway, it will be interesting to see the outcome of this. I just hope somebody can really prove all of this have been a hoax so we can be more relax.
