Free Summer Movies in the Washington DC Area 2010

Selected G or PG movies start at 10:00am every Tuesday and Wednesday at Regal Theaters in the summer during the festival. Tickets and seating are first-come, first-served and are limited to theater capacity. Tickets for these free shows are exclusively available at select theaters’ box offices on the day of the show. Washington DC 2010 Jazz Festival


The DC Jazz Festival is the largest music festival in our Nation’s Capital, incorporating 20-plus venues and more than 100 performances into just under two weeks of fun-lovin’, toe-tappin’ good times.

The DC Jazz Festival is an odd bird. Scattered like chicken feed by date, venue, time and price, you couldn’t be blamed for saying it’s a bit all over the place. Confounding the issue, all of the events are organized into their own sponsored cubbies. You can actually attend several shows without ever getting a larger sense of “The DC Jazz Festival”. LitArtlantic hits Washington DC


Five leading arts organizations — American Independent Writers, Arts & Humanities Council of Montgomery County, Docs in Progress, Round House Theatre, Songwriters’ Association of Washington – and the Bethesda-based Writer’s Center have created a multi-day, multi-discipline festival to commence today till Saturday, May 22.  From literature to theater and film, LitArtlantic will feature panels, workshops, concerts, readings, and other performances. The event which is the 30th Annual Washington Folk Festival, will be showcasing the diversity of traditional music in the Washington area. All the musicians, storytellers, dancers, and craftspeople live in the greater Washington metropolitan area and volunteer their talents to put on a first class festival of national renown. Digital Capital Week Throughout Washington DC

A new 10-day Digital Capital Week (DCWEEK) festival focused on technology and innovation set to take place in DC next month. The intention is to work towards improving the community, people’s businesses and non-profits.

Modeled after events such as Internet Week NY, Social Media Week, FotoWeek DC and the Fringe Festival, DCWEEK will consist of a series of events and workshops hosted by individuals, organizations and community groups at dozens of venues throughout the city. Read more of this post

Ways To Enjoy DC Cherry Blossom Festival 2010

The best time of the year to be in DC is here again next week, the Washington Cherry Blossom time from March 27 till April 11.

First, here is a little bit of history for the non-Washingtonians or those of you not familiar with the Festival:

The plantings of cherry trees originated in 1912 as gift of friendship to the United States from the people of Japan. In Japan, the flowering cherry tree or “Sakura“, as it is called by the Japanese people, is one of the most exalted flowering plants. The beauty of the cherry blossom is a potent symbol equated with evanescence of human life and epitomizes the transformations Japanese Culture has undergone through the ages. The date when the Yoshino cherry blossoms reach peak bloom varies from year to year, depending on weather conditions.
