What Do Clear, Google, And President Obama Have In Common?

They all want to get us  on high-speed broadband. One for profit, I shall call it the wireless company, “Clear”. One for believing access to high-speed broadband is a necessity these days and not a luxury anymore, I shall call it “our President”. And,  one for God knows why, I shall call it “Google”. The good News is more corners of the country will have high-speed Internet access, existing connections would become much faster, and we  will be cruising the Web with 100 Mbps :-)

The Federal Communications Commission just delivered its long-awaited National Broadband Plan to Congress yesterday, with the goal of creating a nationwide communications network connecting more than 90% of U.S. households. Adding 100 More Miles of Fiber, DC Is Gearing Up To Attract More Companies

As more companies like Northrop Grumman Corp and Hilton Hotels Corp moving their headquarters to DC, the region is adding more Optical Network to meet the demand for bandwidth. Way to go Washington!

There will be an additional 100-mile Fiber Optic network linking Baltimore to DC to extend the existing optical backbone past the downtown business district. The $100 Million network which was awarded to FiberLight last week, will connect the growing cities of Laurel, Columbia, Elkridge and Greenbelt, while providing greater diversity to the Maryland, DC, and Virginia regions. The new link is on top of the existing 123-mile Baltimore network and 300-mile Virginia and DC network. Read more…
