Sponto Gearing up to Awesomize Colleges starting with the ones around Awesome DC

Sponto is a mobile party detection app for college students built by one of the coolest DC entrepreneur, Jamey Harvey who I know since Web 1.0 era. Up until last week Sponto was only available to students at the University of Maryland where it’s been burning up the campus.

I wish they were around when I was going to college, because essentially what it does is tell you where all the free food, booze and hot babes (hot dudes like me in your case ladies ;-) ) are near you!

Their app has enabled The GWU (my Alma Mater) as well as American University, Georgetown, Howard, Catholic, UDC, Catholic, Trinity, Gallaudet and the Corcoran School of Art.  If you’re a student at one of these schools you can register for Sponto now and start sharing parties and events. Finally, Met The New Sheriff of Awesome Washington, DC: Vince Gray

Thanks to the VIP tickets provided by my good friend James Howard, Assistant VP for Development and Alumni Relations at the GWU, I was able to watch the GW vs. La Salle Basketball Game last night with our new mayor, Vince Gray. I also invited Mike Bogdanov, another awesome Washingtonian who had won the giveaway VIP ticket to tag along.

We were  greeted at the front door of the Charles E. Smith Center by Jim who was waiting for us with Colonial Club access ticket :-) And, I tell you… The newly established club was just  fantastico! the ambiance, the food, the wine, the big glass window to see the game, etc. were just awesome! The mayor arrived shortly after we did. Thank God there were only a limited number of people in the club, so I finally got a chance to shake the mayor’s hand and introduce myself. I told him about my potential contribution to his team for his initiatives in boosting entrepreneurship and technology in DC – (we’ll see how that goes, I’ll fill you in on that later). by Elias Shams
That’s what our first lady,  Michelle Obama told my school,  the George Washington University September of last year,  and that’s what she got :-)

Mrs. Obama promised to be the GW Commencement speaker if the university completed 100,000 hours of community service by May 1. Well, the school completed the 100,000 hours and secured the first lady as its Commencement speaker.

Over the last seven months, more than 3,800 GW students, faculty, staff and members of the Board of Trustees have participated in various community service projects throughout the Washington, D.C. area and beyond. read more…

You can download the report by clicking on link on top of the page.

This post is a little bit long. So, here is a little bit of inspiration before you continue :-)

The survey with 549 successful entrepreneurs was conducted by Kauffman Foundation Small Research Projects Research last year about Anatomy of an Entrepreneur: Family Background and Motivation. It shows that the majority of them didn’t have entrepreneurial parents. read more…
