Rhythm Road: American Music Abroad 2010


Jazz at Lincoln Center and the U.S. Department of State’s  Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs have once again organized a set of  FREE concerts available in Washington D.C. The performances will cover a variety of genres including jazz, gospel, hip-hop, blues, bluegrass, and Americana/pop. The musicians performing will also be traveling for the spring and summer to countries not regularly visited by American musicians. The Rhythm road was created to share America’s unique contribution to the world of music and to promote cross-cultural understanding and exchange among nations worldwide. Read more of this post

Acclaimed local jazz musicians to perform on the Plaza Saturdays this Summer

The Shops at Wisconsin Place is lining up for the inaugural “Summer Jazz at Wisconsin Place” outdoor concert series.

The concert brings world-class music by some of Washington, DC’s most notable musicians to Friendship Heights. The series features award-winning artists listed below, the lyrical beauty and rhythmic complexity of the Brazilian jazz group Origem, and the swinging, sultry vocals of Sharón Clark.  Tynan Coffee and Tea, DC’s newest homegrown coffee shop will be sampling cool summer smoothies and refreshing ice teas throughout the plaza during the concert series. Persia Meets Flamenco

The Roya Ensemble will be presenting “Persia Meets Flamenco” during the Washington Folk Festival next month.

The event which is the 30th Annual Washington Folk Festival, will be showcasing the diversity of traditional music in the Washington area. All the musicians, storytellers, dancers, and craftspeople live in the greater Washington metropolitan area and volunteer their talents to put on a first class festival of national renown.
