Most Awesome Museums for Kids in Washington, D.C.

1. National Aquarium

The Aquarium, the nation’s oldest aquarium, had an extreme makeover a few years ago. Three cheers for the aquarium’s new-and-improved face. Children can inspect assorted tanks filled with 200 species of fresh- and- saltwater inhabitants, including an American Alligator, Longsnout Seahorse, Spotted Moray Eel, Freshwater Stingray, Giant Pacific Octopus (homely but a master at camouflage), and piranha. Observe them at lunch, served fashionably late at 2pm daily. (See the website for the schedule). Read more of this post

Free Summer Concerts in Washington, D.C. 2010

Summer 2010 in Washington brings a busy schedule of free performances in parks and plazas around the city. Enjoy jazz, blues, rock, reggae and more.

Most of these concert series run from June through August 2010. All are free and open to the public. Except for the Carter Barron concerts, none require tickets. All are outdoor concerts except for those on the Kennedy Center’s Millennium Stage. For performances held in grassy areas (Fort Dupont, Washington National Zoo, National Gallery of Art Sculpture Garden), concertgoers may want to bring blankets or lawn chairs. Check websites for updated schedules. Read more of this post
