As more and more studies on social media are released, the more I am getting excited about our new venture, awesomize.me that we launched last month from the heart of the Awesome Washington, D.C.
The recent study by eMarketer’s predicts that 80% of the businesses will adopt social media for their marketing purposes in 2011. The global surveys indicates that over 30 percent of those businesses don’t even have a social media policy. The report also says marketers that have spent the past few years ramping up their internal social media marketing infrastructure—and their presence on sites such as Facebook and Twitter —will take social media to new heights in 2011. The recent study by Pew Internet on 2,252 adults, aged 18 and older clearly shows that the older generations are catching up with younger internet users in using the Internet this year.
What’s most interesting to me, is the usage of email vs. blogs. The color coordinated spreadsheet suggests that 10-19% of everyone aged 18-64 are blogging. That is an enormous number of people *generating* online content, as opposed to merely consuming it. Indeed,”Blogging” is the only content-creation activity listed. Read more of this post

It was exactly a month ago today that we launched the beta version of our new venture, awesomize.me that targets both consumers and enterprises. I’ve believed in our business model on day first, the latest study by the IT research firm, IDC, is giving me even more confidence about the concept. With the explosion of social media phenomena, one of the awesomize.me‘s mission is to assist business owners to select the right social media channels for their operation as well as connecting them to the right strategic partners and clients.
The new study titled “Top 10 Predictions 2011” shows that businesses will increasingly turn to social networking tools in 2011. It also noted that many small and medium-sized businesses will turn to social networks such as Facebook to establish a free online presence that improves their ability to acquire, engage, and retain customers without the hassle and cost of setting up a traditional Web site. I assume most of you have already heard the rumor about the Facebook phone and their push into the mobile space over the past few weeks. Although, they have been working hard to play down on the News, but that’s what both Google and Apple told us when they were secretly working on their phones. Mobile phones are the epitome of what connects people today and have tremendous significance for modern day social networking which I am sure Facebook is fully aware of that. That’s why I have no doubt they are indeed working on the smartphone secretly. Read more of this post

Another interesting and frankly expected new research from Xobni and Harris Interactive confirms that emailing is here to stay. Throw away all the hypes about social media to replace email.
2,200 adults 18 and older in the U.S. and U.K were surveyed on their e-mail habits and attitudes. Most respondents — 72% in the U.S, 68% in the U.K. — indicated that they check e-mail during their time off. A large percentage of Americans also check e-mail in bed (19%), and while on vacation or during days off (50%). Read more of this post

According to a new study by Pew Internet & American life project, social networking site usage grew 88% among Internet users aged 55-64, and the 65 and older group’s social networking presence grew 100% in the same time frame between April 2009 and May 2010.
I am guessing they’re on finally realizing FaceBook is a great way to connect with their children, grandchildren and share family pictures, in my experience. Read more of this post

From social networking to social media to social search, and now social identity?
Courtesy of social optimization platform Gigya, check out how we trust different identities on different social media sites. The infographic below shows what profile data is available to services after we log in using various online identities.
While I agree with these statistics, it seems perhaps that the people who visit entertainment sites are those who are more likely to use Facebook. And those who visit news sites be more apt to use twitter. So, perhaps there could be some bias in the stats due to individual usage. Just a thought. Read more of this post

Social networking now ranks as the fastest-growing mobile content category, according to a new report from comScore.
In April, 14.5 million people accessed a social networking app from their mobile devices, up 240% from the prior year. That topped the growth of apps for news (124%), sports information (113%), bank accounts (113%) and weather (111%).
