You Got To Try Rose Park

Rose Park is a great place in Washington, DC I recommend you all to check it out – particularly its Tennis and Basketball courts. They are open to public.

Ever since, I moved back to DC from London in 2006, I have done my best to play at least 30 minutes of Tennis with either somebody or with the wall 4 to5 days a week in this place, mostly during the mornings. I have lost over 10 lbs for just doing that and always feel good during the day – even when I think of my mortgage and credit card debts. I would have end up paying at least $200 per month back in London for something like this – so convenient, well maintained and empty. The mornings and afternoons from 1:00– to 4:00 are the best time to play. Otherwise, expect to be behind a few people on the waiting list on any playable weekend morning.

There are three Tennis courts. The nets are in great shape. There are no benches but there are plenty of donated plastic chairs. The locals have also donated three court squeegees and have also apparently paid to have the grounds surrounding the courts manicured.
Here is the location of the Park:

Rose Park is relatively well-maintained. It is west of Rock Creek Parkway between Georgetown and Dupont Circle within walking distance to both areas. It hosts community gatherings and other events. Here is their events calendar. You will also enjoy their annual Spring Celebrations, which are very family-oriented and usually free. Also, there is a seasonal farmer’s market each Wednesday afternoon. If you got kids, they will certainly love it.

There are trees around the courts for shade, though not so many that they protect the courts for most of the day, nor do they shed much onto the courts. There is a 7-11 right around the corner, there’s hardly any traffic going by.

Here are a few photos I took this morning after I finished my Tennis.
