Just to be clear, all three of them are still happening in DC, and they will continue to happen. However, given all the new Reality television shows which have invaded Washington, D.C., politics, corruptions, and scandals are the last thing coming to anyone’s mind these days.
Just in the last year alone, Washington, D.C., has played host to “The Real World” “Top Chef,” “DC Cupcakes“, the up coming “Potomac River” and now the power-hungry White House-crashing cast members of “The Real Housewives of D.C.”
As a Washingtonian, I must admit that D.C. has suffered from a reputation of being a “9-5 city,” where most people live in Virginia and Maryland and commute in for work. Read more of this post

The jobless rate in 39 states and Awesome Washington, D.C. fell in June compared to the prior month, as the nation’s unemployment rate fell 0.2 percentage point to 9.5%, according to the U.S. Department of Labor . Meanwhile, five states saw unemployment rate increases, while the rate was unchanged in six other states.
Nevada remained the state with the highest unemployment rate in the nation — 14.2% — a full percentage point higher than Michigan’s 13.2% rate, which declined again. Washington, DC and 16 states recorded jobless rates in excess of 10%. North and South Dakota continued to have the lowest rates in the country, at 3.6% and 4.5%, respectively. Read more of this post

Virginia has fallen to No. 2 in CNBC‘s annual ranking of America’s Top States for Business after topping the list last year.
Texas, No. 2 in last year’s poll, jumped to the top spot with No. 1 overall rankings in economy and transportation & infrastructure — two categories in which Virginia slipped. The state also fell in education (from No. 7 to 13), but improved dramatically in access to capital (No. 18 to 9). Colorado, North Carolina and Massachusetts rounded out the top five, with Maryland coming in at No. 27. CNBC ranked all 50 states on 40 measures of competitiveness.

Nearly three months after announcing plans to move its corporate headquarters to Virginia, defense contracting giant Northrop Grumman has settled on a specific location, striking a deal to purchase an existing building in Falls Church.
The company, currently based in Los Angeles, said that it plans to initiate operations at the facility, located on Fairview Park Drive, in the summer of 2011 with employees from its Los Angeles and Arlington offices. Northrop, which employs approximately 40,000 people in Maryland, Virginia and DC, had been negotiating with several building owners in the Falls Church and Arlington areas. Read more of this post

Our client is the dominant player in the business process / SaaS-PaaS industry. On behalf of our client we are searching for a top flight Civilian agency Sales Executive who offers a demonstrated track record of closing large complex deals for business process / CRM / ERP companies. Candidates must have a solid understanding of enterprise business process demands within the Federal government and a natural fluency discussing and selling Software as a Service and Platforms as a Service. A background selling hardware or software to the government would not be a match. A successful history of relationship selling of complex solutions is critical. Candidates must have a college education, a record of job stability with proven sales success, a strong desire to be part of an elite Federal sales team within a fast-growing public company, and a solid rolodex of Civilian agency contacts. A track record of exceeding quota and being invited to recognition events is desired. The first year compensation package starts with a base salary of $125K, plus $115K on-target commissions, plus substantial accelerators and a commission bridge during the initial employment period. Just to add a few more notes to my last week article on nationwide unemployment rates, it looks like the economy is definitely making turns for the better, as markets open up more, and good reports come out. When you look at the economy more closely into specific markets, then you may get a slightly different picture.
Washington D.C. area including Maryland and Virginia saw a drop in their unemployment rates.
