Playboy in 3D

by Elias Shams

Looks like Avatar did more than its part to make vaguely 3Dish, blue-looking women attractive. It also got Hugh Hefner to re-evaluate his 1950’s idea about photographing his models in 3D.  The June edition of Playboy will be in good old fashioned 3D.

Yup! The 3D centerfold will appear in the June issue, which hits newsstands this Friday with 3D glasses included. The subject of the photos is 51st Playmate of the Year Hope Dworaczyk.

Wow, Playboy is just one step away from the promised land: a pop-up edition with a simulated-flesh hand that reaches out to  relax you 😉  That is, while you’re reading the articles 🙂

Does anyone seriously think this is a good idea? What if you lose your 3D glasses? Will you be able to clean them if they get all sticky? Personally, I can’t remember the last time I looked at a Playboy centerfold. I long ago got tired of the airbrushing and fake breasts and Pam Anderson clones.

Referring to one of my earlier posts about Newsweek gone for sale, I guess Playboy is doing this to bolster low readership and  to avoid becoming next to go down. Their circulation has dropped almost 60% in just four years. Thanks to the Internet and particularly the youtube of the world and other Webcam, online video sites.

Given all other internet, video, and social media sites out there with a much better interactive experience, and FREE, even if  Playboy includes a blow up doll with a pack of tissues scented with the centerfold’s favorite perfume,  I doubt they can save their magazine, much less the 3D idea.

If the 3D works, I wonder if we will be able to tell whether the girls in the magazine are real or fake 🙂

And I’m sure you’re following the latest in the Miss USA pageant too?!

  2. Tonya Harmon says:

I was also going to add, how about scratch and… no, never mind.

  3. Song Pan says:

Fun idea, but who wants 3D pix when there are tons of videos online!

  4. Mark Thomas says:

Not that type of 3D, but maybe some sort of augmented reality. Oh wait, they already are augmented.

  5. My hope is that Playboy and all other distributors of Porn go out of business.

My studies in the Talmud and Kabalistic materials taught me that our physical world is a reflection of the spiritual world. If the world is spiritually sound, then G-d allows forces of mercy to run the world. This results in the minimization of natural and man-made disasters, as well as environmental problems.

If the world is spiritually polluted, then G-d allows the evil forces of destruction to run the world, resulting in natural and man-made disasters, as well as environmental issues like pollution, acid rain, global warming etc… that threaten to destroy our world.

Any thinking person should ponder why over the last 10 years, the number of natural and man-made disasters have more frequently occurred than what has occurred over the last 200 years?

Our environment is collapsing as well. Terrorist attacks, a Tsunami, earthquakes, floods, tornadoes, oil leaks … do I need to go on. We also have the possibility that once they acquire the capability, Iran will nuke half of Europe and Israel.

The answer is simple. Our society has sunk to a level of immorality that is even worse than Sodom. You can’t even walk in the street anymore without being bombarded with immoral images and meeting people dressed and acting immorally. I was on a train last week and a guy came on with his pants below his buttocks! Lucky he wasn’t wearing thong underwear:-) I have seen several times before. I hope this will not become the “new look”.

My apologies for the short sermon but unless we wake up as a society, there might not be any society left.

Well, before the world goes under, I would at least like to get a glimpse of the 3D world just for a memory.

  7. Nigel Wyman says:

isn’t a shame when supposedly spiritual people can’t beyond what a person is wearing and simply judges the on that basis! Can see why there is so much devision amongst the people of the world.

  8. Don’t think so, while there are lots of stuff available online, why people to for 3D Playboy. But it can be happens for its first issues just for see, how its looks like in 3D book, but after this no chance…. 😦

  9. Nigel,

I have no problem wth what people wear. It is what they don’t wear that I have problems with 🙂

Is there any point where even you would be offended if you are exposed to something that you consider improper or would you care less if people decide to go without clothes.

Hey if dogs and cats could do it, why not people?

You might observe that every generation pushes the envelope a bit father than the previous generation. 75 years ago a guy would have been arrested for going bare chested on the street. Soon a guy will wear the thong underwear with his pants down to his hips.

The fact that porn is so accessible today – even to my 8 year old kid, makes me nervous. Yes – he can view the Playboy magazine and worse stuff on an IPod.

Does this bother you or do you feel that we should be accepting of everything?

In other words, do we draw a line in the sand or not? Maybe the internet is just a medium of expression – one that should not be regulated at all, no matter what is shown?

    • Seymour says:

David, I think you are full of shit. If you have a problem with the world and how they interact with you build a fucking cave and jump in it or try therapy.

  10. Jim Hill says:

Wow, this has really gotten way off track in my opinion. When I re-read the post, there is not implication or moral or etehical issues since this is digital publishing–last I checked. “Forcibly exposed?” Where did this enter into the discussion from the post. Last I checked Playboy is not foreced on anyone or is any pornography that I am aware of. I suggest we stay on track with technical topics and not venture forth into the mysterious darkness of moral and ethical issues. By the way, if you do a little research into archeology, our very distant predecessors used ornamentation for their bodies–men and women– for purely sexual results–not 3D, but for the same purpose.

  11. There are two separate issues that this post seems to rise – 1) the ethical issue of admiring faked or airbrushed breasts either with or without 3D glasses 2) will 3D save Playboy…

    1) As such there is nothing wrong with men wanting to look at naked women BUT modern men hooked on girls with airbrushed bodies detach themselves from the reality and live in a kookoo world… there are plenty of good looking women in real world with real breasts…

    2) 3D effects are fun and can raise sales of Playboy but will not save it as its concept is out of date…To my mind the idea of a Playboy magazine as it was conceived back in 60s is very much passe and boring… I think Hugh Hefner should retire and close this ‘sex’ chapter for himself (let it go, boy), let someone young, with fresh ideas and modern healthy outlook take his place…

  12. Jim.

You are 100% correct. I hijacked this post.

    Sorry folks.

Will put this to bed – at least in this post.

    G-d Bless,
