“The Shops at Wisconsin Place” Summer Jazz Concert Series


Acclaimed local jazz musicians to perform on the Plaza Saturdays this Summer

The Shops at Wisconsin Place is lining up for the inaugural “Summer Jazz at Wisconsin Place” outdoor concert series.

The concert brings world-class music by some of Washington, DC’s most notable musicians to Friendship Heights. The series features award-winning artists listed below, the lyrical beauty and rhythmic complexity of the Brazilian jazz group Origem, and the swinging, sultry vocals of Sharón Clark.  Tynan Coffee and Tea, DC’s newest homegrown coffee shop will be sampling cool summer smoothies and refreshing ice teas throughout the plaza during the concert series.

The Wisconsin Place Plaza, designed by famed artist Athena Tacha known for her site-specific environmental installations, has quickly become a community hub thanks to its use of public art, decorative planters, a central fountain and obelisk alongside the collection of boutiques and restaurants.

When: Saturdays this summer from 4-6 p.m. The complete concert schedule and line up is as follows:

June 19, 2010 –   Origem: Origem’s sound has been described as “modern Brazilian music at its best” by Clave Magazine.

June 26, 2010 –  Tommy Cecil Trio: This trio is one of DC’s most in-demand musical groups whose leader has been described as an “outstanding bassist” with “understated brilliance… deep, pronounced groove” by the All Music Guide.

July 10, 2010O  – The Sharón Clark Quartet: Clark is the winner of the Billie Holiday Vocal Competition. She’s been called “a revelation” by Jazz Times.

July 17, 2010 – Peter Fraize Quartet featuring Greg Hatza: The WAMMIE award winners for Best Jazz Recording 2009 have been described as “displaying the fire of John Coltrane” by Cadence Magazine.

July 24, 2010 –  Larry Brown Quintet: this award winning hard bop group called, “straight-ahead jazz at its best” by jazzreview.com.
