Awesome Washingtonian of the Day Sept 11, 2010

Name: Katherine Chalmers
Live in: Vienna, VA
Originally from: South Carolina, but have since lived in Chicago, Atlanta, Silicon Valley and Paris.
Profession: CEO & Founder of WhatsFun.com
What I love about the DC area the most: There are so many fun things to do!  Every week there are hundreds of events and fun activities in the region: sports, theater, museums, book signings, lectures, monuments, business events, amazing classes and workshops of all sorts, volunteer opportunities, political activities (from far left to ultra right), comedy clubs, music of all genres, festivals of all sorts.  Just in our awesome neighborhood there’s something fun happening all the time: impromptu margaritas, girls’ coffee breaks, book club, musicales, or just chatting and walking the dogs.  Whether you’re in DC or the suburbs, there is a cultural cornucopia waiting to be enjoyed.
Favorite Music Video: Johnny Hallyday’s  “J’oublierai Ton Nom”

About me: I am a fourth-generation woman entrepreneur who can’t resist innovative technology.  I moved here from Silicon Valley in 2000 and have had so much fun working with area software companies that last year I decided to start one of my own.  At WhatsFun.com, we’re developing a new social media friendly promotion and publishing platform to make it easier than ever for people to find fun things to do.  It’s really exciting to be part of the wave of innovative startups that are blossoming in the region now.  I live in Northern Virginia with my husband and our two lively preschoolers.
