Awesome Washingtonian of the Day Sept 14, 2010

NAME: S TIEN WONG
LIVE IN: Chevy Chase, MD
ORIGINALLY FROM: The Great State of New Jersey
PROFESSION: Chairman and CEO of 2 companies:  Lore Systems and Opus8. Lore is an international managed services and cloud computing firm serving over 200 Fortune 500, government and nonprofit clients.  Opus8 is a private investment firm which is investing in datacenter, call center, and outsourcing businesses in North America and China.
WHAT I LOVE ABOUT THE DC AREA THE MOST: It’s the most important city in the world, it’s international, and it’s a very livable city.  With all that’s going on in finance, government contracting, healthcare, and new regulations, the DC region will only continue to grow at a tremendous pace, and that’s super exciting!
My Favorite Music video: Frank Sinatra & Antonio Carlos Jobim (1967 )

ABOUT ME: I have been a serial entrepreneur since my days at Dartmouth College, where I started and ran 3 businesses.  I got a “real” job in commercial real estate finance in DC in the mid-80s, but after 10 years or so, started another company, CyberRep, which grew from zero to 2300 employees in 12 years.  We sold it to a Fortune 500 company in 2003, and since then I have been involved in investing in and helping to incubate some interesting companies.  We bought Lore Systems about 2.5 years ago and have since then been capitalizing on the tremendous growth in the areas of cloud computing and IT infrastructure, especially with the Federal government.  I am very involved with and support a variety of charitable and industry organizations like the Tech Council of Maryland, Potomac Officers Club, and the Network for Teaching Entrepreneurship to name a couple.  For fun, I enjoy tennis, golf, skiing, and relaxing with family.

I also own  Martin Pescador Hotel in Buzios Brazil

  2. Frank Walker says:

Tien is a super guy to work for and with (I should know, we worked together for about 7 years). He is an entrepreneur in every sense, but is also an outstanding operator who takes care of his customers. Our economy could use more Tiens!
