Happy 1st Birthday Awesome DC!

I am very excited to remind you all that it was exactly a year ago today I launched Awesome DC. Unfortunately, I am currently not in DC to throw a big party, but I intend to do so upon my return from the EU on December 13th 🙂

Why did I  launch Awesome DC?

Simple!  as I made it clear in about us section of the site, to position our Nation’s capital as the technology hub as well as city of parties, hot events, and clubbing. In a nut shell to show the world Washington, DC is much more than just politics, corruption, and scandals. Have I achieved that? not quite yet 😦 With your continuous support, I strongly believe it will get there within the next 5 to 10 years  🙂 We have been covering everything happening in DC, but politic and religion 🙂

What I am most proud that came out of  Awesome DC, is the launch of my new internet venture, awesomize.me exactly a month ago today. With the explosion of the social media phenomena, I found it a necessity to launch awesomize.me. The site  enables people to distinguish their qualitative vs. quantitative fans & friends online. The platform is a powerful social interaction engine that will help you to determine intelligently and effectively who you need to be connected with and through which social media channels.

Will my new venture become as big as other Silicon Valley internet companies like Facebook and Google? Will it end up employing tons of people in DC area? Beats me! Too early to predict that. One thing for sure if venture capitalist folks in DC area become a little bit more believer of social media space like those in the West Coast, it will significantly help 🙂

Given, the site has already attracted over 1000 users, 100 companies from 78 countries utilizing the site, I am becoming optimistic though. Not to mention, I haven’t really pushed the company to the media yet 🙂

How did Awesome DC give me the idea for awesomize.me?

The idea came from the Awesome Washingtonian of the day feature we launched on Awesome DC back in August when we started nominating one Washingtonian per day and let the community to decide how awesome our nominees were by rating them on both professional and social level as well as their potential contribution to the region. We noticed our nominees started sharing their Awesome DC page with all their fans and followers on their social media channels, then asked them for their votes on Awesome DC. We had users with over 5,000 fans managed to collect only 30-50 votes, we also had users with about 200  fans, managed to collect over 150 votes. Well, it didn’t take a rocket scientist to tell which one had real friends and which one has been just connecting and connecting to anyone anywhere in the world online.

awesomize.me is sort of the same concept, but it’s 100% automated plus a lot more beef, and it’s global which means a person living in New York can now be awesomized (rated) by someone living in New Delhi and vice versa

Just a about a few days ago we expanded the idea to the enterprise world by introducing  awesome companies of the day. Within the next two month, we will be launching two more kick ass awesome enterprise solution  for businesses.

Thank you all for your support and helping us to spread the word on both Awesome DC and awesomize.me 🙂
