Poised To be the Intelligent Platform for the Social Media

In a few days, it will be exactly one month that we introduced the Awesome Companies feature that allows the users to create a page for their companies on From the start, I knew that there was something complimentary about this feature to all other pages that companies create on other social media channels such as Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn. I just didn’t know what and how to spell it out. Thanks to my telecom & networking background, and particularly thanks to the feedback from the 200 companies including The Huffington Post, Qwest Communications, HP, Ascom Testing Wireless, etc. that are already utilizing,  I think I now have the answer 🙂

Your corporate page is like a router, an intelligent active device.  The corporate pages you have on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, are like a hub, a dumb passive device.

Those of you not familiar with a technical  mumbo jumbo I just throw out, a router is an intelligent telecom & networking device that direct the flow of the information (voice, data, and video) intelligently from the sender to the receiver. Most of you have a simple version of it at your home these days. Your little wireless router that connects your home computer to the Internet, are smart enough to know where the information is coming form and where to direct them; hence they are known as an intelligent active devices. Hubs, on the other hand, are just passive devices with no intelligence behind them. The incoming information is directed via the hardwired integrated into the device.

In order to have a robust network, the deployment of both hubs and routers are needed to transfer the information from one place to another.

Same thing in the world of social media. Here is how your page is like a router and it should be considered as an essential component of your social media strategy. In addition to the basic information you see on other social media channels, you will experience the following intelligence about the company on your pages

a) How others have rated the companies, its products, services, and  customer support

b) Who has rated the companies and the solution offerings and how influential the voters are (in our next release on Jan 15)

c) A direct link to all the social media channels the companies have a page on

d) What others have been saying about your companies and your solution offerings in the comment section.

e) And, a link to allow you to establish a direct line of communication with the companies

More goodies will be added as we grow 🙂

Here are the items above in action on The page is for a corporate law firm, Cooley LLC:

In addition to our current “Awesome People” and “Awesome Companies”, we will be launching two new features later this month called “Awesome Products” and “Awesome Services”. There will be a strong cross connection between all four features that will even make the platform more relevance and effective for your social media strategy.

Although a few companies like Dell, Starbucks, and Comcast have shown some decent success in utilizing social media, but a study by Yankee Groups shows otherwise for most companies. Other studies show Facebook and Twitter do not bring in leads. Such channels can be used as channels to engage with your existing customers, but not as a tool for generating leads which has been seen as a discouraging data point. I am not claiming will completely fill that gap (at least not initially until some more features are added to the product), but certainly it is taking a first step toward that direction.

Dell generated $6.5 m in sales from Twitter alone in 2009. Since 2008, when Comcast created their Twitter account, they have been able to help over 150,000 of their customers, Starbucks has received over 50,000 product idea through their social media channels. That being said, do you think platform will jack up the numbers for these companies and encourage other companies to jump on the social media bandwagon?

Those of you who already have a page for both your personal and corporate on, would you agree that will be your personal & corporate reputation management portal in leveraging the power of the community? How do you think effects your social media strategy?

Elias, could you please give some more explanation of the business logic? 🙂 Think of me as of a “ for Dummies” reader! 🙂 I need examples! 🙂

It was first the internet in early 90’s. So, everyone felt like having a presence on the web. In a short period of time, the Web got cluttered with hundreds of thousands Web sites. Then, came along the search engine and later Google to make it easier for the users to find the right info/website from a simple keyword search

Then, there was the social media sites like FB, LinkedIn, and Twitter that allowed the companies to have a fan pages with a link to their site. Now everyone one has a fan page on Facebook and twitter. We are back to mid 90’s pre search engine era. How does one users know who to follow and where to follow (Twitter, FB, Linkedin, myspace, Flickr, etc.), that is where (the google of social media) is born with the goal to help you and your company to a) find the right social media channel effectively b) Distinguish Your Qualitative vs. Quantitative Fans & Friends Online, and more as pointed out in the article

  2. Thanks Elias for the post I have already set up my business profile and look forward to adding my services to my page when this becomes available. Oh and Happy new year

The website is awesome! I am looking for an iPhone app in the App Store!

It could truly be a ‘Kick Ass’ app with those click wheels for the categories and another for the Social Sites.

The One Post box should be no problem.

I have FB, Twitter, HootSuite, Gist, and NetVibes, but I would love an awesomize icon.

Charles, Will work on it ASAP and send you a note. I just put a request about this to our team. Not sure how the hell it didn’t came to my mind to have this in the first place 😦 Thanks for bringing that up.
