Young Men vs. Young Women: Who gets more hurt in a breakup?

Given the large number of young men and women living and working in Washington, D.C. area, I hope this article becomes handy to those who are just about to breakup.

A new study by Wake Forest University and Florida State offers new insight into the emotional effects of relationship strife on young singles, and is prompting discussion about the veracity of long-standing gender stereotypes. The survey was done on 1,611 single twenty and found that the support and strain of a relationship were more likely to piss off the man’s mental health than a woman’s. Read more of this post

Washingtonian Women Spend More on Digital Goods than Washingtonian Men

Another interesting report was recently conducted by the market research firm VG Market and virtual currency firm PlaySpan which shows consumers are spending more on virtual goods on social networks than in online games, and North American women over 25 are spending more on virtual goods than any other demographic.

The survey of 2,221 customers between the ages of 13 and 64 across the PlaySpan Marketplace, Facebook via Spare Change, and Ultimate Game Card system found that 75% have purchased virtual goods, and 32% have made such purchases within social networks.

The median spending on digital goods on social networks is $50 per year, followed by massively multiplayer online games ($40); free-to-play games ($40); PC games with online play ($37); and console games with online play ($20). Read more of this post

All the Single Ladies, All the Single Ladies, Signs We will Never Marry You

Having lived, dumped, being dumped for the past 15 years in the D.C. area, here are some of the subtle clues for the Washingtonian ladies to figure out their men – particularly, if you want to know whether we are the marrying type or not.

1. Our Buddies Act Distant
Even though our buddies may be friendly enough, they probably won’t ask you many personal questions about your job, interests, etc. The ugly truth: They don’t want to invest time and energy getting to know you because they figure you’re not going to be around very long.

2. We are Hot and Cold on the Phone
We will text you 10 times in a night, then go missing for days. We’ll chat on the phone for an hour, then ignore your messages for the rest of the week. Wondering what the heck is going on? I am going to be brutally honest: We are mostly likely busy dating other women. Read more of this post

Washington D.C. Wins the Pay Gap

Washington, D.C.  has the lowest pay gap between men and women workers in the country, compared to the 50 states, according to Bureau of Labor Statistics.

The median weekly wage of full-time women workers is 96.5 percent of that for their male counterparts in DC, far and away the most parity in the country. The U.S. average is 80.2 percent; Louisiana women are trailing the rest of the country, making only 65 percent of men’s wages. Some other local stats: Virginia women make 80.4 percent of what Virginia men do; Maryland women make 87.3 percent. Of course, in this contest, we’re a tiny urban area competing with states filled with urban, suburban, and rural areas—so this is likely more a triumph for cities than it is for the District.

The Truth Behind Washington D.C. Attraction Revealed

Within the first month after I got off the boat from Shiraz to Washington, DC in 1985, I could tell something was very different about DC.  No, it wasn’t the politics, nor the museums, nor the awesome sceneries of Washington, DC. Something else  made me  fall in love with the city and settle here for good – the insane ratio of women to men in DC.  I have been always wondered about the reason behind it  for the past 25 years. I think I’ve  finally found the answer today on May 25th, 2010. Read more of this post

Hey Baby, Shall we Shag Now or Shag later? I have an iPhone

Elias Shams
No more need to have a $100,000 fancy car to get the chicks. We can now do it with just a $200 iPhone.

A new study of 1500 women shows:

. 54% of women more likely to date men with iPhone.

. Men who own an iPhone are more attractive than those who do not.

. Women were particularly repulsed by men who own a Palm Pre.

. 37% of those quizzed said that owning an iPhone makes a man seem more reliable, to which nearly all went on to say that a second date would be likely. read more…

Time To Shed Your Prejudice – Gay Marriage Is Here To Stay

by Elias Shams
There was a time when men and women whispered about homosexuality. When being associated with a male homosexual was proof enough that you were gay too. Not to mention lesbian relationships! That was wrong on every level…

Washington DC is at the forefront of change when. It is official today! Men and women will have the opportunity to marry their same-sex partner in DC.

Time to move aside homophobic people! And by the way, I want to add that the misconception generated around gay men is so mentally retarded that we assume all gay men are like “The Village People” (although I think they are hillarious and sometimes in Halloween you’ll find several gay men dressed up with these costumes). The Cocks May Crow…

A Tale from a former Washingtonian – Diane Noboa

The battle of the sexes is probably a topic you are very familiar with. No one can escape the controversy that our differences generate…we think different, we act out of different motivations, our way of expressing ourselves can’t be more opposite, we confuse each other with what we really want to say sometimes, we play love and hate games with each other that border on insanity and yet, there is something deliciously peculiar about the way we are interwoven. Man and woman are made for each other. Made to complement each other and become one.Procreation (as I am sure you are aware of) is an old and well known activity we’ve engaged in since the beginning of time. Read more…
