Only If Social media Existed 42 Years Ago When Buzz Aldrin Peed on the Moon

Buzz Aldrin, the American space hero was the first man to pee on the Moon exactly 42 years ago today. Yeap. Buzz  stood there, took it out in front of gazillions of people glued to the TV and did what every man would do when the bladder is full.

Can you imagine if we had all these social media channels 42 years ago? 🙂

The Social Media Jungle Pee Pee Analogy

I finally had a chance to check out the new social networking site,  Google+, and to find out how they are different from other social media channels. After  spending two days of goofing off  and circling with other people on the site, I have the answer. The differences are simple! It’s all about our PEE PEE 🙂

Google’s New $1 Billion Mobile Business

That’s what I call the business. It has been only a few years that Google got into the mobile space and already making $1B revenue from it. The company recently reported $2.17 billion in profits on $7.29 billion in revenues during the last quarter. Revenues were up 23% from a year ago when it brought in $5.94 billion and profits were up 32% from $1.64 billion in the year-ago period.

During Q3 earnings call a few days ago, Google did something it has never done before: It broke down the numbers from some of its key businesses. I am guessing the company  revealed these numbers, not just for kicks; they wanted to make it clear that search isn’t the only revenue-generating arm of the Google empire. Social Networks takes over Search Engines in Online News Distribution

In a new study about the news consumption and sharing habits of its international readership, CNN found that 43% of online news sharing occurs via social media networks and tools, such as Facebook, Twitter, Youtube, and My Space followed by e-mail (30%), SMS (15%) and instant messenger (12%).

As publishers and marketers well know, a small group of influencers is generally responsible for driving the spread of news. The study found that 27% of frequent sharers (those who share at least six stories per week) account for the online distribution of 87% of all news stories. The average consumer of online news content shares 13 stories per week and receives 26 stories via social media and/or e-mail. This proclivity for online sharing has contributed to an overall increase of news consumption in the U.S., another recent study from the Pew Research Center revealed. Read more of this post
